Tier-two and tier-three supplier failures kept arriving as surprises. A component shortage would surface the same week it shut down a production line. We built a supplier-risk layer that combined external signals, such as supplier financial health and shipping data, with the operator’s own order history. It was scored weekly and pushed to planners with recommended actions.
Average warning time on major disruptions increased from about one week to about five weeks. Nine line stoppages were avoided in the first year. The system flagged a supplier-distress signal that led to early dual-sourcing — a decision the COO later called the program’s payback moment.
